Exactly. The only thing that may NOT show up on a credit report are utility company debts. But if EVERYTHING has a $0 bal then I would think it is safe to assume the debt has been paid.

So if everything on my report now has a balance of zero or says it is paid off then I should be good.  Even it isn't in the name of the original company, there would still have to be a number other than zero on there somewhere, which there isn't.  Does every kind of debt show up on your credit report, I would think it would, as it all affects your rating.

In my experience,yes, BUT you havve to remember that since the debt has been sold to a collection company, it would be listed under another company name and they could have added fees. So the name and amount of the original bill could have changed. Thoroughly check , and re-check, your credit reports - question EVERYTHING.

Once you locate the original bill on your credit report, it should show a $0, paid in full. If it has charge off - then it is in collections somewhere. It is up to you to locate the debt and pay it off. You can try the original creditor - they usually have a toll free # at the bottom of the credit report and they can tell you who the debt was sold to, or they can take payment and notify the collection agencies that the debt is paid in full.

Is it safe to assume that if it doesn't appear on the credit report then there is no debt?  I have been keeping track of my credit report online for about the past two months or so and I know that it doesn't appear on any of the three credit beuarueas credit reports that I have seen.

Debt collectors can stop calling for any number of reasons - maybe they finally got the hint that the debt was paid or they bill was sold to another company and they just haven't gotten around to aggravating you again.
